I know I'm committing a two-posts-in-one-day faux pas...
...but when the Governator himself writes a beautiful acrostic to the California State Assembly... GB knows!

Why did Bob Saget quit America's Funniest Home Videos when there are still gems like this out there?

The real secret...
My kid better be able to pull this stuff off when he is well younger than 9 years old! That move is wayyyyy outdated and soon this will be as well. I have pulled this one in practice but never had the balls to try it in a real game. It's pretty embarrasing when you mess a move up like that when it's live. Most times the gloves will drop and you will get your ass kicked! Enjoy!!!

God's Treehouse, Crossville, Tennessee
I ran across these today in my wanderings (I just held back from making an horrendous joke). This is a 97-foot tree house by this religious nut. This place is actually called God's Treehouse. I neglected to include the image of the owner praying in one of the the rooms.

For anyone who wants to make a pilgrimage I'm down. And as for those giant DIY structure enthusiasts, this treehouse is a great rival to the Bishop Castle in Colorado.

Back to Form

Not sure how this one hasn't been mentioned on GB yet, but Raimi's latest is a killer throwback to his old days with biting humor, creepy spells, and downright gruesome horror. He knows exactly how and at what pace to pull the audience and maintains that elusive balance of suspense, normalcy, and over-the-top gore. Music adds a lot, characters are great (the lead is sort of a hotter version of the Office's "Pam"), and the script is sharp. Highly recommended if you haven't seen it, which I imagine many of you have.

Oil: The Long Goodbye

Some really excellent pictures today at Foreign Policy from photographer Edward Burtynsky. The latest FP issue features a special report on oil that's worth a perusal.
Hawks (and NHLs) biggest comeback ever
Coop, any chance you were at the United Center for that win last night? What a wild game.

P.s. Klatt, I don't appreciate your categorization of my posts.
South Africa next summer
Hail, hail, the U.S. soccer team on reaching the 2010 World Cup. Only a select number of bars carried the game on closed circuit TV because Honduras screwed ESPN out of the rights. I watched with Norwalk's Hondurans in the rowdy El Dorado. With an awesome second half, Landon Donovan ended up the hero. 3-2 final.
And there's this, especially 1:06 --
which I stumbled on at soulpancake.com, Rainn Wilson's blog. It's no GB but it deserves some credit.

Muddy Eddie!
So I was in Austin, TX for Austin City Limits this past weekend. Fucking great. It was like the culmination of my Dave Matthews/Pearl Jam fanhood. Among the other highlights, Girl Talk was fun as hell, Bon Iver and Grizzly Bear were great, and Mutemath was surprisingly good. It rained hardcore on Saturday, so the place was muddy as hell. Fun to walk around barefoot and stare at the ground while being out of my gourd, not so fun when you read news reports about how the "Dillo Dirt" is a combination of lawn clippings and treated human sewage. But regardless, Eddie Vedder has a new legion of fans in Texas because he rocked out the only way he knows how to -- like a fucking balls-to-the-wall rockgod. Orgasm alert: setlist available here. They closed their second encore with Keep on Rockin' and EV hopped off the stage, over the barriers, and started running around like a little kid (with security guards nervously jogging behind him) until he made the decision any rational human being would make as the center of attention for close to 100,000 crazed and panty-soaked fans -- start mudsliding. (At the 2:30 mark in the video)
It's evolution, baby!

Not sure if you guys remember this video but it was from last year with Patrick Roy's son. He just pleaded guilty to assault charge. I thought they allow fighting in hockey!

The Half Acre Store
4257 N Lincoln Ave, at Cullom; North Center; 773.248.4038
When you need something it's best to go straight to the source, after all, how else could you verify that this dude your friend knows totally woke up in an ice-filled tub missing a kidney? Going straight to beer's source, Half Acre.
Having carved out a solid reputation for sudsitory excellence during the past couple of years, HA's branching into the wild frontier of retail with their very own on-site storefront at their North Center brewery; a bright, wood-furnished space sporting brews as far as the eye can see, like a fraternity house, if those beers were empty and disappearing into a thriving carpet of mold. Naturally they're making all of their wares -- rich amber Half Acre Lager, Baume, a chocolate rye stout, and west coast-style pale ale Daisy Cutter -- available in units ranging from 12 and 22 oz bottles, kegs, growlers, and eventually even cans, because it's extremely painful to crush a growler against your forehead. Not wanting to hog all of the attention they'll also be offering favorites from other local suspects (Metropolitan, Two Brothers, Flossmoor Station), noted microbrewers from as far away as Colorado and the West Coast, and spirits from boutique distilleries like Koval and North Shore, that latter of which can't quite let go of its New Trier hockey glory days, but, honestly, could you??
Stay tuned for frequent in-store tasting events and limited releases of beers you can't find anywhere else, much like that kidney guy, although seriously, your friend TOTALLY talked to him in this Wicker Park bar, and he had a bandage over his back and everything. Swear! Get the scoop on their brews at HalfAcreBeer.com

also, klatt/blog, congratulations on the last one being the 900th post
