What am I missing in 'Midnight Cowboy'?

I've been out of film study for a few years now, but it ain't happenin'. I have to imagine I just lack the context -- pretty racy for '69, couple of leading men in unique roles. (Thank god it was in color, uhh. [kidding])
Your take?
I'm on vacation so I have some time to catch-up. Dig back through the years and give me some priorities for your must-sees-if-you-haven't-already.

Great book since college? I have a few, but I'm all about this right now -- modern India from the POV of a bad-ass servant. Worth a look.

DC was rockin' with Mike and Sherm, the bike gang will disband, but I'm fairly psyched to be writing about the Winter Olympics for the next few months.

Congrats on the new job!
Where in Connecticut?
And I do like Midnight Cowboy.. though not totally sure why. Maybe it's because of the part when they play "Everybody's Talkin' At Me" at the end.
I started watching Mad Men and can't stop. Someone help.
I don't really read "books", but I would recommend Everything is Illuminated and Midnight's Children.
I just downloaded the entire Godfather trilogy on torrent. Film 101, I guess. In book territory, I've been meaning to read 'What is the What' for the longest time because I remember Evan raving about it... Gryll's Base book club?
Andy read 'What is the What' and got a big kick out of it.
Hoot, Stamford -- 45 mins north of NYC. And when I get there, I'm looking to break back into team sports. I'm thinking of playing on an 20-something soccer team. Anyone made the leap back to a weekly league outside of school? Will some of these men be dads? Weird. Advice?
in the eggers category, i think everyone would really enjoy his "you shall know our velocity!" - great premise of 2 twenty-something buddies trying to travel around the world in a week and give away tens of thousands of dollars one of them fell into. really great follow through on it, too.
and i know i dont say this often, so you should take heed: The Wire changed how i look at visual media, what you can do with it, and what can be accomplished in the right hands. i mean, really, holy fucking shit. i honestly believe its better than everything i've ever seen, with the exception of simpsons seasons 4/5-9 and maaaybe british office, but wait no, only simpsons.
Klatt: me, Brooksy, Cooper, Novak, my buddy Harry from Colby, his buddy Nick, who happens to be childhood friends with Brooksy, and another dude named Mike, who happens to be friends with Coop are on a men's league hockey team called "Stan Mikita's Donuts."
It's seriously the most random orgy of coincidental Chicago connections ever. Looking forward to it.
And, Stamford -- big Colby town. I know lot's of moms there if you're ever looking to clean pools or fix cable.
As for the Book Club, I'd have to add at least one graphic novel to the list of must reads.
Check out Chris Ware's "Jimmy Corrigan, Smartest Kid on Earth."
It's so good that they actually put pages of the book on display at MoMA in NYC. Not to mention, it made me cry.
Also, when did Eggers become a category?
