sifting through

After much perusing on Ross' recent pick RCRD LBL, I came back with a few gems despite being covered head to toe in the grime of electronica. This post is basically a vehicle to share some tracks from the band Yuck whom I discovered on the site. I know, I know, it's a bit Elliot Smith but check out their MySpace (yeesh) page and I think that you will be pleased.

Party Down

I don't have cable so I'm playing catch-up on this Starz show (from Paul Rudd and friends.) The second season just started and the first episode is available on iTunes for $zero.

Adam Scott is the main dude. You know, from that one scene in Eastbound. I jacked this video from an AV Club interview because we need it for the GB record.

Fun to hang this weekend. See you guys in a few weeks.

You stuck my flash drive in your vagina - m4w - 25 (philadelphia)

Date: 2010-04-20, 3:04PM EDT

You stuck my flash drive in your vagina. If you are reading this, you know who you are. I don’t think this is a fad sweeping the city, so this one’s for you.

We met at a Millcreek Tavern. You said you were from Lancaster. You were beautiful, you liked me. It was perfect. But then…

We went back to my apartment. We watched The Breakfast Club. You had never seen it before. We then ended up in my bed, as planned. And had sex, as planned.

You looked beautiful half covered in my sheets when I left to use the bathroom. When I came back, this is what I saw:

You standing naked at my computer. You with your hand on the keyboard, not typing. You grabbing the flash drive.

The flash drive pops out.

You look at it.

You squat a little bit.

You insert it into your vagina, like a tampon.

I am speechless.

You proceed to get dressed, say you have to go home, and leave. The number you gave me doesn’t work.

I am confused. I’d like to see you again. I’d like to see my flash drive again.

Your name is Rebecca. You have long blond hair.

Please get in touch. I am a very understanding person.

take me higher

No wonder that the Marlins have been so successful over the years. They have an inspirational backer like no other. The interesting thing about this song is that it was probably originally written with some highfalutin religious themes but then when S.S. realized that his band had had there time in sun he just inserted some baseball terminology and called it a day. Anyway, Zachly enjoy...

Mr. C.

Hey so I don't know if anyone posted about this. And I didnt bother to check. But if you remember Mr. C, he recently passed away. Heres the obit:

Robert A. Cleland

Cleland, Robert A. Longtime Wilmette resident and peace activist Robert Cleland, 89, died Sunday at home, leaving his wife of 65 years, Jean (nee Rolfing); six children; and three grandchildren. A 1943 graduate of University of Minnesota, Cleland served as a Naval officer until 1946. In the 1960s, he co-founded the Wilmette chapter of the Committee for a Sane Nuclear Policy and organized protests against the Vietnam War. After retirement in 1976, he served as director of NOMOR, an arms control advocacy group, and co-founded the North Suburban Peace Initiative. As members of Wilmette's First Congregational Church (UCC) for 54 years, the Clelands helped lead efforts to move the church towards positions against the Vietnam War and in support of civil rights, affordable housing, sanctuary for Central American refugees, and nuclear disarmament. In 1986, Cleland was the Democratic candidate for Congress in the heavily Republican Tenth District. His well-respected campaign earned the endorsement of the local Pioneer Press. As an activist, Cleland gave countless presentations at churches, universities, and community forums; organized numerous marches and demonstrations; and composed essays, signature ads, and letters to the editor critiquing U.S. foreign and domestic policies. Beginning in 1957, "Mr. C." turned the family's backyard into a playground for two generations of neighborhood children, who played on rope swings, flew through the air on an overhead zip line (known as "the pulley") and jumped from the garage roof onto mattresses. In wintertime, tobogganers raced down an iced ramp and across the snowy yard, through a forest of salvaged Christmas trees festooned with lights. Cleland enjoyed gardening, singing in his church choir, chopping wood, and writing frequent newsletters to a far-flung network of relatives and friends. A memorial service will take place in May. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes contributions to NSPI (www.nspipeace.org).

PS- Remember Jimmy fucking Targe? that kid fucked everything up.

come correct

so i've been meaning to make a post like this for a long time but have held back because i knew i would take a lot of shit for it, but whatever. for those not already at a place of wearing clothes that fit your body well and look capital-S Sharp (and quite a few are), you're very close. that in mind, GQ is a bullshit magazine, just an overgrown lad mag in a lot of ways, but they really do know their fashion and style, in a big way. and very helpfully, they do a lot of succinct, visual how-to's and general rules-ish type things, and even though my personal style isn't totally in line with all their choices, i almost always agree with their rules for things. really, they're excellent for young men growing into their adult fashion selves. so here's a link to their latest, a guide to dressing on a budget. def not their best one, but it felt appropriate as a door opener (non-indicative-of-the-material-but-still-outstanding-pull-quote: "You can go to Walmart and get some good-ass tracksuits. I wear them whenever I need to be comfortable—like on my plane."—Ludacris). i (much) more strongly recommend this and this, with this as a great corollary for the working stiffs amongst us. stay strong, and stay hungry

PS hawks pulling it together in a big way!!! about damn time, so antsy for playoffs

"fucking magnets, how do they work?"

A nice little ironic ICP video for the majority of our readers and for Zachly, a masterpiece of music video creativity. If you're thirsty for more, insane clowns look up their feature length cowboy movie trailer.

Saturday, June 5th

As a few of you know, Saturday, June 5th is the day we've picked to huddle up Evan's many followers to remember a great dude, and to collectively wonder how he kept his basement so damp and cold, his Doritos so consistently stale.

Mark that one on your calendars. If you're home in Chicago, awesome. If you're in another corner of the country and you're looking for a fun weekend to come home, this here is it. Invitations are going out to somewhere around 150 people. You'll find one in your inbox in a day or two.

Fun is planned in two parts:
1) Beach volleyball at Elder Beach around lunchtime on Saturday + BBQ
2) At night, we pile into a bar downtown (We're reserving space. It'll be a $20-40 cover, all you can handle before rugs end up on front lawns. A percentage gets sent to Cambodia's Hope.)

There are going to be conflicts and the Witty's totally understand that. If jobs and life in general make the first weekend in June a tough one, no worries.

Pass it on to those who need to know.

Thank baby Jesus, baseball is back,
Klatt

The Very Best

Hot jams from The Very Best, who are a Malawian singer and a couple of brit DJ's. I just got their sophomore album and it is pretty spectacular (key track: Julia).

Digging around online I found a download for their first album/mixtape and it is also fantastic. It's got something for everyone as far as samples, covers and guest appearances go-- Vampire Weekend, Akon, M.I.A, Beatles, Architecture in Helsinki, Hans Zimmer and the track below samples The King of Pop. Here's the download if that little taste was not enough.
