Chickens or Eggs?

Just tried to tie this into an e-mail but honestly can't remember this saying that vexxed each one of us. Don't count your chickens or don't count your eggs?

OBVI don't count your chickens before they hatch, because you can rather simply count eggs before they hatch - just look at them - but as was clear to i believe all but matthew s gryll, eggs are opaque and you therefore are unable to see how many chickens you may have in said fertilized (or not) eggs before they hatch, whereby you shouldn't count them out of simple prudence and extremely simple, chimp-level intelligence
